Ratty Golightly on celebrating February, the month of love.

Updated: Feb 12, 2023

The ramblings, happenings and meanderings of Ratty Golightly.

Hello Friend

How are you feeling? Loved up? Casting your eye? Meh?

Oh come now, the month of love isn't just for star-crossed lovers. In the Rat world it is very much the month of feeling, waking up from the January fog and getting ready for the excitement of Spring. That has got to be something to celebrate right?

There is something very pleasing about spreading a few hearts about the place (click here to see how to make some super-easy heart-shaped painterly bunting) and smiling each time you see them.

Thank you to everyone that has sent a little love this way and purchased your Valentine's goodies from the Ratty Golightly online store. Every single purchase is appreciated and raises a smile.

Scroll down for my 5 great things to ponder. If you'd like to receive the Ratler straight into your inbox, together with exclusive subscriber discounts, then sign up to my newsletter club (sign up here).

Have a great week and don't forget to spare a little love for yourself.

Ratty x

The Rat’s 5 great things to ponder on today…

1) Take a moment

Take a moment and gather the energy required for Spring busy-ness. I have really missed moments with a book last year, telling the Rat brain that there isn't time or working so hard that there isn't a speck of energy left at the end of the day. Well, no more, I say. If we don't make time for the things we enjoy then I'm afraid that no one else will.

Our souls depend on it peeps. Moments for quietude and calm must be put into the day. If you need a little persuasion then buy a new mug and make it your 'moment of calm' mug from which to enjoy a relaxing beverage.

2) Sweet Words

Will you be writing a card in the next few days? Penning a poetry line or two?

Isn't this the sweetest of lines? This card is most definitely not just for Valentine's/Galentine's day but for every moment when you want to remind someone of how wonderful they are. It's a sentiment not just for lovers but for friends too. Those peeps that have just grabbed your attention and made you feel that you must have them in your life.

Also available as an A4 print too to display on your walls and make you smile every single day. Who are you most grateful for just for being in your life? Send them a card and let them know!

3) A timely bake

If, like us, you are facing half term this week, then this may be the perfect way to pass an hour or so with small fingers. It has become a tradition in our home to bake a batch of these Nigella Heart-shaped Custard Creams each year. There are way more of a faff than opening up a shop-bought packet but that is part of the charm.

4) Three Years of Sourdough

I was looking back through pics and realised that it is three year's since Best Beloved and Rat took the rather splendid Sourdough bakery course at the Two Magpies Bakery School.

We are still making Sourdough - most weekends - from the original starter presented to us at the end of this course. What a wonderful gift to receive and a very happy habit to take up.

I wonder how many loaves we have baked since then?

5) The Inspiration for Prints

If you didn't catch it click here for the story behind the inspiration of my little terrier Linoprint. In fact, inspiration for so many elements of the Rat-world. A new terrier was recently created and will soon be available on the website to purchase.

Finding the time to create new work alongside the running of the business and servicing my freelance clients can be challenging but the January mists are clearing and the February energy is rising. There will be new prints - a rather silly one is currently underway in fact - because that is the joy. I am currently perusing two beautiful books that are hugely inspiring. I shall share info soon.
